.1 ¶ Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
.2  By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
.3  And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
.4  And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
.5  And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
1 - Access by faith Paul expresses the same thought in ep0208. We need to exercise faith to receive the grace.
5 - Hope ... ashamed Ashamed is from kataischuno meaning "to disgrace," or to come to nothing. Compare the word in 2co0714, 2co0904. Consider ps02205.
5 - Love of God See on 2co0514. And we are drawn to love Him 1jo0419.
5 - Is shed abroad Or "has been poured out." For spiritual blessings see is4403, compare jl0228,29, jn0738, ac0217, tt0305,6.
5 - Holy Ghost Or "Holy Spirit."
5 - Which is given Likely the gift at Pentecost ac0201-4, ac0216.
.6 ¶ For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
.7  For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
.8  But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
  6-8 Amazing grace!
6 - When we We weren't living when Christ died for us but the statement was true for Paul and many of his readers and the principle is true for us. He died for the whole world knowing that some would accept His grace v8 to become godly mt0121
6 - When ... without strength We are professional sinners and have no power in ourselves to meet the requirements of God. See how the Greek word for "without strength" is elsewhere translated: mt2539, lu1009, ac0409.
6 - In due time Or "at the right time." God has a plan. The anointing and death of Jesus (and the end of probation for the mission given to the Jewish nation) was predicted precisely by Daniel da0924,26. Also ga0404, mr0115.
.9  Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
.10  For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
.11  And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
11 "Not only so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received our reconciliation." (RSV)
9 - Much more What is more? If He loved us so much as sinners, He will certainly save us.
9 - Shall be saved Some would see the process of salvation finished upon one's acceptance of it. In fact it is past, present, and future. Here we will be saved from the time of God's wrath. It has not yet been poured out re1410a.
10 - Reconciled We could never receive pardon and salvation if it were not for Christ. We are reconciled  through Him. That is, we are in Christ, in harmony with Him!
11 - We also joy This is a concept that that will amaze us throughout Eternity.
.12  Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
.13  (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
.14  Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
.15  But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is  by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.
.16  And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.
15 - Free gift That is, grace. See ro1129.
.17  For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
.18  Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
18 - By the offence of one This passage needs careful and prayerful reading to avoid misunderstanding. The Greek may read simply "by one offence." In a similar way, it may read "by one righteousness." Also, the phrases "judgment came" and "the free gift came" have been added by translators. We may translate the verse, "So then, as through one offence, unto all men, unto condemnation, so also through one act of righteousness, unto all men unto justification of life." So we are condemned, but we have a choice. Paul amplifies this in chapter 7, where we see the natural "law," or tendency, is to sin ro0721f.
19 - Justification of life Or justification that leads to life.
.19  For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.   Christ is undoing the evil.
.20  Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
.21  That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
.6:1 ¶ What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
20 - Law entered that ... offence Does the law produce sin? Only in the sense that sin is not realized without it ro0707. God provides an abundance of grace to cover any repentant sinner.
21 - Grace reign through righteousness Grace does not provide eternal life without our letting grace do its work of making us righteous.
